Kramer weight

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kramer weight was a weight by which the small traders , so-called shopkeepers , weighed and sold their goods.

It was generally heavier than the pharmacist's weight , but the commercial weights for wholesale goods were usually heavier. In different regions the Kramer weight had to be differentiated from the urban or scales weight. Rostock is an example of this. A distinction was made here between fine and coarse goods.

The pound of Kramer weight was weighed in Rostock with 484.028 grams to 483.98 grams. In general, the Kramer weight measure was about 5 percent lighter than the city weight. The values for the city weight were 508.229 grams to 508.178 grams. The Kramer weight was the same in the Hanseatic cities of Rostock and Hamburg .
