The Kranepfuhl is a lake about 500 meters east of the Havel in the city of Havelsee near the Kranepuhl residential area . It was created in the course of the mining of rich clay deposits that were processed in a nearby brick factory. The Kranepfuhl has no inflow and is fed by groundwater and precipitation. The lake is drained via an artificially created drain in a northerly direction, which flows into the Eisengraben , the drainage ditch of the Bohnenländer See . A little later this iron trench drains into the Havel. The lake covers an area of around 9 hectares, extends 730 meters from northeast to southwest and is 230 meters in its widest extent from northwest to southeast. Today the Kranepfuhl is primarily used as fishing and bathing water and for local recreation. It is located in the same glacial glacial valley in which the nearby Havel flows northwards today.
Protected areas
The Kranepuhl is located in the landscape protection area of the Brandenburg forest and lake area. In addition, it is part of the European bird sanctuary Middle Havelniederung and designated as a protected landscape component.
