Kransekage

Kransekage (Danish) or Kransekake (Norwegian) is a specialty from Denmark and Norway . The cake consists of several rings made of baked marzipan , which are layered on top of each other and decorated with a powdered sugar and egg white glaze in the typical loop pattern. The " wreath cake " (literal translation) usually has a cone shape, i. H. the diameter of the rings decreases continuously up to the tip. The cake is often additionally decorated with small national flags made of paper. It is traditionally eaten at midnight on New Year's Eve or at large family celebrations, such as B. Weddings offered.

A special form of the Kransekage is the so-called cornucopia / Overflødighedshorn, in which the cone is turned forwards and upwards. The baked and decorated cornucopia can still be filled with sweets and / or alcohol.

At Queen Margaret's wedding in 1967 there was this wedding cake.

In Danish and Norwegian grocery stores you can also buy finger-length, straight pieces ( kransekagestænger ) that are eaten like cookies .
