history

Due to its great view, the Krapfenwaldlbad is one of the most popular baths in Vienna. The bath was opened in 1923 and later accessed through the Vienna Höhenstrasse . Its namesake, Franz Josef Krapf, had a forest house built nearby in the Krapfenwaldl . This was later converted into an inn. Today it is incorporated as a restaurant in the bathroom. One of the first separate nude bathing areas in Vienna was created in the Krapfenwaldlbad. After being damaged in World War II , the pool was reopened in 1952. In 1978 the pool received two new basins. In the summer of 1979 it was Vienna's first topless bathroom, a sensation at the time. In 1981 the Gänsehäufel followed and in 1982 it was allowed in 12 of the 16 municipal summer baths as well as in Innsbruck, Klagenfurt and Linz, which resulted in Rainhard Fendrich's hit "Oben ohne". With the renovation of the upper basin (1989) it became the summer pool as we know it today.

Furnishing

The bath offers 40,069 m² of space for up to 4500 visitors, who have 415 cabins and around 1400 small boxes. It has a lap pool, a family pool and a pool for children with a slide. In addition, there is an adventure pool with massage jets, a restaurant, sun baths, a beach volleyball court, a soccer field and a children's playground. The bathroom is administered by Vienna Municipal Department 44.

Protected pines

There are several groups of black pines that were placed under protection in 1937 on the grounds of the bath . This location was originally the northernmost occurrence of this Mediterranean plant.
