The Krauss-Maffei D 16 were four-axle tank locomotives for the private rail shunting service , which were mainly used by mining companies . Two locomotives have been preserved.

history

The locomotives were built in 1949 for industrial and private railways. The first three machines (serial numbers 17574–17576) went to the Saarbergwerke , which they used as speeches 35 to 37 in the coking plant speeches . The fourth locomotive (serial number 17577) went to the Austrian GKB in 1951 , which also used it as a shunting locomotive on the Bergla lignite mine in Pölfing- Bergla. It was decommissioned and scrapped in the 1970s.

The two D 16H locomotives, also built in 1949, were superheated steam locomotives and were used on the Frankfurt port railway as the C9 (factory number 17584) and C10 (17597). Both were sold on April 16, 1958 to the mining company Hibernia and operated there as Gladbeck 57-D and 58-D . They were decommissioned in 1965/66 and scrapped a little later.

The locomotives with the serial numbers 17575 and 17576 have been preserved. The former Reden 36 went to the Historische Eisenbahn Frankfurt (HEF) in Frankfurt am Main, which operated it at times under the misleading Fantasie-Reichsbahn number 81 1001 and later handed it over to the Museums-Eisenbahn-Club Losheim (MECL), while the former Reden 37 came to the steam locomotive community 41 096 ( Warnetalbahn ) in 1979 and has been inoperable there since 1994.

The D 16s were wet (17574-17577) or superheated steam locomotives (17584, 17597) with two cylinders. The connecting rods act on the third axis .
