Kreisau Initiative

The Kreisau Initiative eV (KI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that was founded in the summer of 1989 by East and West Berliners to support the Krzyżowa International Youth Meeting Center in Kreisau / Krzyżowa (Poland) with ideas and material.

goals and tasks

With youth and meeting projects in Kreisau , Berlin and other places, the association, in cooperation with the International Youth Meeting Center Kreisau, enables people in Europe to meet across borders. With international partners, the KI develops interdisciplinary educational events for different age groups. As a non-governmental organization, the KI supports the Polish Kreisau Foundation with public relations and networking as well as with advice and fundraising. The office, which started its work in 2002, is of particular importance.

Mission statement

The KI is committed to the merging of Europe and the New Kreisau. Based on the ideas of the Kreisau Circle and the East Central European opposition movements, the AI ​​brings people of different origins together in a dialogue of active memory, mutual perception and constructive design.

The AI ​​is committed to the following basic values:

  • European understanding through active engagement with the history of resistance and opposition in the 20th century
  • Individual sense of responsibility as a prerequisite for a democratic, European civil society
  • Ethical orientation towards universal human rights
  • Inclusion and participation of people of different social, national and ethnic affiliations, all age groups, both genders, political convictions, sexual orientation and with different restrictions

The educational approach of the AI ​​is characterized in all educational and encounter projects by reference to the real world, action-oriented, enabling experience-based learning as well as addressing important political and social issues of our time.
