Filippo Tiago Broers

Filippo Tiago Broers OFM (born July 13, 1916 in Oosterblokker , West Friesland , Netherlands ; † March 26, 1990 in Caravelas , Brazil ) was a Dutch religious and from 1963 to 1983 Roman Catholic Bishop of Caravelas .

Life

Filippo Tiago Broers joined the Franciscan Order in 1936 and studied in Brazil. On April 4, 1943, he received the sacrament of ordination .

On May 2, 1963, Pope John XXIII appointed him . the first bishop of the diocese of Caravelas in the state of Bahia, established in the previous year . The episcopal ordination donated him the bishop of Teófilo Otoni , Quirino Adolfo Schmitz, OFM, on July 25th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Ilhéus , Caetano Antônio Lima dos Santos, OFMCap , and the Bishop of Araçuaí , José Maria Pires .

He took part in the second, third and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a Council Father.

Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation on April 18, 1983. On the same date, the Pope appointed his successor Antônio Eliseu Zuqueto OFMCap and renamed the diocese to the Diocese of Teixeira de Freitas-Caravelas .
