Gyro platform

Part of a Soviet design gyro platform (approx. 1969): the gyro motor can be seen in the middle. Its power connections are brought out later - originally, the motor is fed via slip rings.

The gyro platform is the combination of the sensors of an inertial navigation system .

The most important component in mechanical, with a centrifugal working systems is usually electrically driven centrifugal: One in the middle of the device befindlicher spin motor is supplied via slip rings with power. It is gimbaled and tared so that its axis of rotation can move without force.

Furthermore, the gyro platform contains angle sensors for detecting the orientation of the gyro axis and a device for initialization, that is to say for the forced alignment of the gyro axis.

Another design are laser gyroscopes, which work with a ring laser or fiber optic gyroscope without any moving parts. Their rotation rate sensor is based on the interference of counter-rotating laser beams.
