Kreuzkirche

The one Evangelical Lutheran Cross Church is a church in Schweringen , Nienburg district , Lower Saxony . The church was consecrated in 1934. The church is part of the chapel community Schweringen that part of the parish bellows is.

In September 2017, it became known that the church bell hung in 1934 had a Nazi swastika on it. The Jacobskirche in Herxheim am Berg , the Redeemer Church in Rilchingen-Hanweiler and the Michaelkirche in Faßberg have similar bells . Peace activists criticized the continued use of the bell. The use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations is also a criminal offense, depending on the context ( Section 86a of the Criminal Code ).

The church and chapel board of the Balge parish and the Schweringen chapel community agreed on March 14, 2018 to continue operating the bell, although the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover had proposed to finance an exchange of the bell. On the other hand, the pastor complained on March 16, 2018 that only the board of directors of the Schweringen chapel community should have voted on it; the bell therefore remained out of order. On March 29, 2018, it became known that strangers had removed the swastika on the bell.
