Church of Exaltation of the Cross (Kołobrzeg)
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Polish Kościół Podwyższenia Świętego Krzyża ) is a Roman Catholic parish church in Kołobrzeg in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It was built in 1932 as the Protestant Church of the Redeemer in Kolberg.
history
The church was built on the initiative of the superintendent August Matthes . The young architect Eberhard Holstein created the design . The Church of the Redeemer was consecrated on May 8, 1932. It had an altar , a pulpit , a baptismal font and a harmonium . In 1936 the cathedral preacher Paul Hinz carved a large crucifix .
The church survived the Second World War as one of three churches in the city (also cathedral and garrison church ). In 1948 it was rededicated as a Catholic branch church with the patronage of the Exaltation of the Cross . Franciscans worked on it , who helped with the further repair of the building in the following period. In 1973 the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross was raised to a parish . In the same year a Franciscan monastery was founded on her.
In 2019, Catholic masses were also offered regularly in German.
Architecture and interior design
The church is a modern building with a nave, presbytery and tower.
Inside the large crucifix by Paulus Hinz from 1936 has been put up again. The organ was built in 1965 by Ryszard Plenikowsky and Józef Adamczyk and has 11 stops . In 1973 it was rebuilt and the prospectus changed.
There are three bells hanging in the tower.
