The Bethesda-Kreuzkirche in Węgorzewo ( German Angerburg ) is a Greek Catholic church in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The Polish name is: Cerkiew Świętego Krzyża ( Holy Cross Church ).
Church building
history
Until 1945 the Protestant church was part of the “ Bethesda ” care facility . The cornerstone was laid on October 2, 1930, and the church was consecrated on October 2, 1933. After 1945 it served as a Polish military church. In the 1950s it was given to the Evangelical Church in Poland . She leased it from 1983 and sold it to the Greek Catholic community in Węgorzewo in 1998 . In 1999 the choir room was rebuilt for the new use. The Protestant church has the right to use the chapel as well.
architecture
The rectangular choir is now limited by an iconostasis . The bell tower is narrow and rectangular. The dark red brick and the pointed window arches are reminiscent of neo-Gothic, the simple shapes of the Bauhaus. The crucifix in the chancel and the church windows have been preserved from the inventory .
