War memorial on the market in Görzke

The war memorial on the market is a reminder of the the war fallen soldiers from Görzke , on the west side of the district Potsdam-Mittelmark in the state of Brandenburg .

location

The width of road leading from the east to the market square. To the south of this runs parallel to August-Bebel-Strasse , which both unite at the market. There the memorial stands on a piece of land that is enclosed with a low fence .

history

On September 2, 1879, the memorial to the soldiers who died in the Franco-German War was unveiled. After the end of the First World War , the community had the memorial plaques dismantled and on August 30, 1925, new plaques were installed. These also contain the names of the 88 Görzkers who fell in World War I.

Building description

The Brandenburg State Office for Monument Preservation and State Archaeological Museum (BLDAM) suspects that a sculptor Voigt created the design for the monument. The column is made of sandstone and is 8.48 m high. The base is square and carries a plaque to the north. Above a profiled cornice is an Ionic column with an eagle with outstretched wings on it.
