Heinrich Prove

Heinrich Pröve (* August 1892 in Wathlingen ; † December 1967 in Celle ) was a German regional historian and school councilor in the district of Celle .

Pröve studied German and history to become a teacher in Göttingen and received his doctorate there in 1929. phil. In 1928 he founded the first city ​​archive in Celle and in 1930 was appointed professor of history at the Pedagogical Academy Altona under Erich Less , which was closed again in 1932 due to financial difficulties. From 1934 to 1945 he was a school councilor in the district of Celle and again from 1949 to 1957 when he created a middle school concept for the district. He was also the long-time head of the district library . He wrote numerous essays on local history and published several German language books and reading books for teaching purposes (1939, 1941, 1950). The reading book you are calling your people! was clearly Nazi-oriented: a preface by Hitler's foreword and all the books were divided into chapters with Nazi leitmotifs as headings. The editors came from the Nazi teachers' association .

At his instigation, a teacher training institute was opened in Celle. After the war, in 1946 Hans Bohnenkamp appointed him as a lecturer in history at the newly founded Adolf-Reichwein-Hochschule Celle for teacher training. In 1965 he received the Federal Cross of Merit .
