Johann Heinrich Friedrich Geffert (born May 19, 1887 in Himbergen ; † March 13, 1987 in Hamburg-Groß Borstel ) was a German educational scientist and didactician of the German language for elementary schools. He was also a book editor, poet and translator from English ( Daniel Defoe , Robinson).

Geffert received his doctorate in 1926 at the University of Hamburg under Gustaf Deuchler on Hermann Hesse as Dr. phil. He had already come out beforehand with editions of poems and stories, most of which were aimed at edifying effects. From 1927 on he worked as a lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute Hamburg and the Hamburg University for Teacher Training . In 1933 he took over as editor-in-chief of the Hamburger Lehrerzeitung , a weekly publication of the Nazi teachers' association . But he resigned from this position before the end of the year. He was jointly responsible for the Hamburg edition of the Reichslesebuch for elementary schools. In 1942 he was appointed senior director of studies and professor to head the Hamburg teacher training institute II on Felix-Dahn-Strasse, which was closed in 1945 by the British occupying forces. As a non-member of the NSDAP, Geffert was immediately appointed to the group of experts in June 1945 who took care of the reorganization of elementary school teacher training. As before 1933, it was set up at the University of Hamburg. Geffert worked until 1952. He had many publications on German language teaching . His German dictionary was very popular in Westermann-Verlag, which was published until the 1970s.
