The monument

It is located in Pfeddersheim on the corner of Allee and Paternusstraße and is intended to commemorate the Pfeddersheim victims of the Franco-German War in 1870/71.

The monument is made of bronze -made statue of a flag-waving warrior standing on a sandstone base with inscriptions and the imperial eagle stands. The base, in turn, stands on a high granite boulder .

It was inaugurated on July 7th and 8th, 1894. The sculptor was Jakob Brand from Pfeddersheim.

restoration

The monument was restored in December 2012 for 22,000 euros. The restoration of the name plaques at a cost of 600 euros was carried out by the working group for cultural and landscape conservation in Pfeddersheim .

Trivia

The memorial was created in 1894. The inscription under the imperial eagle reads: "The city of Pfeddersheim its brave sons 1870/71". It is noteworthy here that already 20 years before the creation, Pfeddersheim was downgraded to a "village" by the rural community order for the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1874. The “pride” of the Pfeddersheimers let this fact “fall under the table” when creating the inscription.
