career

Kris Holm began unicycling in 1986 and is considered one of the first Muni riders (Muni: Mountain Unicycling). He is the initiator of the first unicycle trial competitions . In 1998 he set a world record in the sidehop (high jump to the side), which lasted until 2004. In the same year he began to do trial demonstrations with the Norco Factory Team and toured with them until 2006. In 1999, Holm was North American champion in unicycle trials. He began to travel the world on a unicycle, always looking for new challenges. For example, he rode his unicycle down from Pico de Orizaba , the third highest mountain in North America. In 2001 he released his first major unicycle film, One Tired Guy . On old trade routes he crossed the Kingdom of Bhutan in the Himalayas and drove the Great Wall of China . This resulted in his film Into the Thunder Dragon .

Kris Holm received a Master of Science degree in geosciences from the University of British Columbia in 2002 and has worked as a geoscientist ever since. Also in 2002 he became world champion in the unicycle trial and in 2005 also won the title of European champion. In 2006 he climbed the almost 6000 m high Licancabur volcano in Bolivia and rode his unicycle down. In 2010, he was the only unicyclist to take part in the BC Bike Race , a seven-day mountain bike race in British Columbia , and became the first unicyclist to achieve a podium in a major bike race (3rd place in the 5th stage). In 2013 he officially ended his semi-professional career at the age of 40. However, he wants to continue unicycling.

Kris Holm has appeared in numerous extreme sports films, for example One Tired Guy , Into the Thunder Dragon , New World Disorder , North Shore Extreme, as well as on television and in an excerpt from Tim Burton's program Ripley's Believe It Or Not . These were the first worldwide appearances of a unicycling athlete and helped to popularize the sport of mountain unicycling. Since 1998 he has appeared in over 200 features and 13 films that have been shown at film festivals in over 30 countries. In the December 2005 issue of Men's Journal , his film Into the Thunder Dragon was listed in the Top 20 Best Adventure DVDs.

Kris Holm Unicycles

In 1997 Holm started to build unicycle parts. The components available at the time were not up to the stresses of this new sport. Accidents due to material failure were not uncommon. In 1999 he founded his company Kris Holm Unicycles (KHU), filling a niche in the market by offering unicycles for the first time that were specially designed for off-road and mountain unicycling. Initially, the wheels were produced by Norco, but now KHU has its own production facility. Thanks to years of experience and exchanges with other top drivers and engineers, he was able to bring well-thought-out products to the market.

The company Kris Holm unicycles supports the unicycle sport by sponsoring talented riders around the world and equips with material. Kris Holm Unicycles is committed to environmentally conscious manufacturing processes and donates one percent of sales to environmental protection.
