In the picture story Krischan mit der Piepe , Wilhelm Busch describes the intoxication of a boy in 1864 who secretly and illegally smokes his father's meerschaum pipe . The story is written in rhymes in Low German and, like many of Busch's stories, ends with the moral that one should obey rules and prohibitions, otherwise one will face disadvantages (such as in this case the intoxication, hallucinations and nausea) and punishments has to reckon.

Krischan with the Piepe appeared in the picture antics published by Heinrich Richter Verlag. After Die kleine Honigdiebe, it was the second book with contributions exclusively by Wilhelm Busch.
