Kristín Steinsdóttir

Kristín Steinsdóttir (born March 11, 1946 in Seyðisfjörður in Iceland ) is an Icelandic writer, mainly of children's and young people's books and novels, as well as a translator from German into Icelandic.

Life

Kristín grew up in a place with fewer than 800 inhabitants at the end of a 17-kilometer-long fjord and completed her training as a teacher in 1968. She worked at a school in Reykjavík before living in Göttingen from 1972 to 1978 to study Danish and German. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iceland . In 1978 the author moved to Norway with her family .

Kristín has been working full-time as a writer since 1988 and lives in Reykjavík (as of 2011). From 1993 to 2001 she was a board member of the Icelandic Writers' Association. She was also the chairman of the Icelandic Association of Children's Book Authors. She wrote various plays with her sister Iðunn Steinsdóttir .
