Kritsa ( Greek Κριτσά ( f. Sg. )) Is a small town in eastern Crete , in the municipality of Agios Nikolaos of the municipality of the same name . The distance to the city of Ágios Nikólaos is about nine kilometers. In 2011 the statistics counted 1,296 inhabitants in Kritsa itself and 2,637 inhabitants with the connected towns.
Kritsa was used in 1956 as the setting for the filming of the film The Man Who Must Die, based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis . Kritsa is known for its proximity to the Panagía i Kerá church , which is just outside the village. In addition to farming, the residents mainly earn their livelihood by selling handicrafts, which are offered in front of almost every house on the main street of the village.

In addition to the Panagia church mentioned above, one can also find in Kritsa and the surrounding area:
- the cemetery church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos (John the Baptist) from 1370.
- the Agios Georgios church (St. George) with remaining frescoes from the thirteenth century. It is on the left side of the road on the route from Kritsa to Kroustas.
- the ruins of the ancient hilltop settlement of Lato .
In addition, Kritsa is the starting point for trips in the Dikti Mountains to the Katharo plain at an altitude of 1,100 meters and to the Lasithi plateau .
