Kriukai is a town ( miestelis ) with 533 inhabitants in the Joniškis district in Lithuania . It is located on the KK209 trunk road, 15 km northeast of Joniškis , on the border with Latvia . The place is the center of the Kriukai District . There is the Catholic Laurentius Church (Kriukai) built in 1793 , a secondary school, a library, a post office (LT-84037), a monument to Lithuanian independence (built in 1928, destroyed in Soviet Lithuania , rebuilt in 1989).
In Kriukai the Šešėvėlė and Šešėvė , the tributaries of the Lielupė, flow . Kriukai village has been known since 1586.
