Krndija (German: Kerndia ) is a municipality in the Osijek-Baranja County in eastern Croatia .

The village of Kerndia was founded by Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer with German settlers. Kerndia was a purely German village with 1,670 inhabitants at the time. Today the village belongs to the Punitovci municipality and had 96 inhabitants in 2001, in 1931 there were just under 1400 people who lived there.

Krndija camp

The place was converted into a camp for Danube Swabian civilians in August 1945 , in which an estimated 3500 to 4000 people were imprisoned. Between 500 and 1500 Germans are said to have died there, the main causes being malnutrition and typhus.
