description
The crown oak takes its name from the Low German Kron for crow or crane. Presumably the oak used to serve as a resting tree for this bird. With a height of 38 meters, it was the largest oak in Schleswig-Holstein. She wore leaves for the last time in 1987, when she was about 600 years old. Rescue attempts in previous years had not helped to keep the mighty oak alive. A measurement of the trunk circumference in 1997 showed approximately 9 meters. In 2002 a storm was her undoing.
