Max Georg Zimmermann
Max Georg Zimmermann (born June 1, 1861 in Elbing ; † July 10, 1919 in Berlin ) was a German art historian .
Life
Max Georg Zimmermann was the son of the private secretary Christian Zimmermann. The later classical philologist and high school teacher Albert Zimmermann (1854-1925) was his brother. Both attended high school in Elbing. He studied art history and classical archeology in Berlin and Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1885. From 1888 he was a lecturer in art history at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , and in 1892 he was awarded the title of professor. In 1893/94 he traveled to Italy, then lived in Bonn and went to Berlin in 1896. In 1900 he became a private lecturer at the University of Berlin and in the same year a full professor of art history at the Technical University of Berlin , where he taught until his death. In 1912 he received the title of Privy Councilor and became director of the Schinkel Museum and the Beuth Collection in Berlin.
