Kronepark
The Kronepark is a two-hectare park in the Munich district of Au-Haidhausen between Nockherberg and Schmedererweg.
The park was laid out in 1870 by Carl von Effner . In 1870 this property belonged to the Schmederer brewery family . Descendants of the Schmederer family sold the property to Carl Krone in 1932 , who planned to expand the Schmederer villa there and open a restaurant. In 1943 the villa was destroyed by bombs. The city of Munich acquired the park area from the Krone family, owners of Circus Krone , in the mid-1950s . In 1955 the park became a landscape protection area, which prevented 200 residential units from being built there. Also in 1955, the Munich Cowboy Club built a “ranch” in the park, but shortly afterwards it moved to its current location on the Floßlände . In 1958 the park became an urban oasis of relaxation and leisure for the people of Giesing . Herbert Lanz (1919–1985) designed a drinking fountain from six different sized blocks made of shell limestone. A pump well was added later for the children playing.
