Krystyna Stypułkowska

Krystyna Stypułkowska-Smith (* 1939 in Warsaw ) is a Polish actress and translator. She gained fame in Germany through her leading role in the film Spur der Steine (1966). She lives in the USA.

Life

Stypułkowska studied Romance languages , learned French, Italian and English and worked as a translator in Poland. Andrzej Wajda discovered her in 1960 for the female lead in his film The Innocent Sorcerers . In 1962 she played the leading role in the film The Girl from a Good Home by Antoni Bohdziewicz .

She left Poland and initially lived in Italy, where she played a small role in a film. In 1966 she played the leading female role of Kati Klee in the GDR in Spur der Steine by director Frank Beyer , alongside Manfred Krug . It was dubbed by Jutta Hoffmann . Back in Italy, she tried herself as a stage actress.

She later emigrated to the USA , where, after studying philology, she was employed by an agency of the State Department in the field of US-Polish relations and intercultural communication. Krystyna Stypułkowska-Smith is married to the former US diplomat Michel Smith for the second time. She lives in Arlington, Virginia .
