The Kubelbrücke is a historic covered wooden bridge over the Urnäsch river between St. Gallen and Stein AR . In addition to the Hundwil wooden bridge, it is the only remaining bridge from the builder Hans Ulrich Grubenmann .
Building history
In 1778 a flood destroyed an older bridge. Grubenmann constructed the new bridge in 1780. Despite the short length of 30 meters, the bridge builder set great store by a sophisticated suspension system. The five-sided polygonal bridge arch can be seen inside the covered bridge.
The roof trusses were given sayings, which is why it was nicknamed the speaking bridge . The bridge is a structure on the St. Gallen Bridge Path .
