Two caves below the Hamburg coat of arms in the Teufelsmauer near Timmenrode in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt , are referred to as the cowsheds .

The caves are located at the western end of a small rocky valley basin, the north side of which is taken up by the rocks of the Hamburg coat of arms. Sometimes the Teufelsloch on the east side of the boiler is also called the cowshed.

It is believed that the caves were formed in the course of the extraction of scouring sand . The fact that they are named as cowsheds gives rise to the assumption that cattle were kept in the caves or that they were hidden in uncertain times. In the last decades of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, however, there were larger deposits of soil in the caves, so that these can only be seen to some extent.
