Kulturøen (The Culture Island ) is a cultural center located in the Danish town of Middelfart in the north-west of the Danish island of Funen . It is located on an artificial peninsula in the middle of the TEL-KA Marina with 65 berths. Due to its location on the harbor front, the cultural center is exposed to the Little Belt , from where there is an unobstructed view of both the Old and New Little Belt Bridge . The 4500 m² building houses the Panorama Middelfart cinema (400 seats) with a café, a restaurant, the Middelfart tourist information center and the Middelfart library , which is also one of the meeting places for the Trekantområdets Literature Festival .
Kulturøen was built according to designs by the Aarhus architects schmidt hammer Lassen architects and opened on August 7, 2005 after a two-year construction period. The construction cost of the house commissioned by Middelfart Municipality was DKK 60 million . Large glass facades are placed in all four directions; the remaining outer walls are clad with zinc plates.
