The Kulturpark in Powsin (Polish: Park Kultury w Powsinie ) is a tree-lined recreation and sports park in the south of Warsaw . It is named after the nearby town of Powsin. The facility is located on the Warsaw Vistula embankment on the edge of the Kabaty nature reserve ( Las Kabacki im. Stefana Starzyńskiego ) and near the botanical garden of the Polska Akademia Nauk . The cultural park belongs to the Ursynów district .

history

In 1938 the Polski Country Club (owner: Polski Country Club Sp. Z oo ) was established here on a 50 hectare site. The land required was acquired by Count Adam Branicki (1892–1947), the owner of the Wilanów estate. The club ran a golf course. During the Second World War , this golf course was used as farmland.

The facility, including the buildings that have been erected in the meantime (such as the wooden clubhouse that still exists today), was transferred in 1947 by the club's shareholders to the Warsaw City Council; The condition for the takeover was the establishment of a recreation and sports park by the city. In 1951 Wilanów and with it the park were incorporated into Warsaw. Five years later, the park was renamed from Ośrodek Wczasów Świątecznych w Powsinie (German: holiday center) to today's name Park Kultury w Powsinie .

present

The leisure facility, which can be entered free of charge, now offers various - partly paid - sports facilities: swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, chess tables and outdoor children's playgrounds as well as tennis facilities housed in a modern complex, bowling alleys, a fitness studio, saunas and solarium. You can grill in a meadow. Cultural events are held in an open-air theater. A high ropes course has also been maintained since the 2010s . There is also the option of renting holiday cabins.

In the entrance area are the historic clubhouse and a ticket booth - also belonging to the former golf course - in a well-tended flower garden. Also worth seeing is a mighty, 260 year old and 31 meter high pedunculate oak in a clearing that was christened “ Hetman ” and is classified as a natural monument. At the edge of the facility is a listed, former forester's house from 1890, which is now used by the Kabaty forest administration. Below the embankment, the access road from Powsin ends in a parking lot and a terminus of the municipal bus company MZA.
