Branicki
Branicki is an important Polish noble family of Szlachta . The feminine form of the name is Branicka .
The noble Branicki family consisted of two lines, an older line that belonged to the Gryf coat of arms (extinct in the male line in the 18th century) and a younger line that carried the Korczak coat of arms and died out with Adam Branicki († 1947) in the male line.
Significant bearers of this name were / are among others:
- Jan Klemens Branicki de Gryf (1689–1771), field and grand hetman of the Polish crown
- Franz Xaver Graf Branicki (1730-1819) was chamberlain (podstoli) of the Polish King Stanislaus Poniatowski , who showered him with honors. He was also field and grand hetman of the Polish Crown, co-founder of the Targowica Confederation. The Grand Marshal of the Crown was married to Alexandra Baronesse Engelhardt, a niece of Prince Gregor Potemkin , the favorite of Tsarina Catherine II. In March and April 1765 he stayed in Berlin as the Polish king's envoy to negotiate with Frederick the Great.
