The KUPF - Upper Austria Culture Platform is an umbrella organization, interest group and network of cultural initiatives in Upper Austria. It includes 153 cultural initiatives (as of April 2017) from various areas of contemporary culture.

The aim of the KUPF is to continuously improve the framework conditions for free cultural work .

history

With the social upheaval of the 1970s and 80s through new social movements, cultural and contemporary groups and initiatives were also created in Upper Austria that were concerned with shaping their own living environment. According to the understanding of grassroots democratization and emancipation movements, it was primarily about initiatives in geographical, social and economic peripheral areas.

From the loose amalgamation of local and regional cultural initiatives, the umbrella organization for cultural initiatives, the KUPF, was founded in 1984. While the networking of critical forces was in the foreground at first, the KUPF - Culture Platform Upper Austria developed into a recognized representative of socio-cultural work. One of the most significant successes of the democratic cultural movement, to which the KUPF feels a part, is the raising of the social status of contemporary cultural work.

Since the mid-1990s, the KUPF has greatly expanded its representative function and pays great attention to the cultural work of socially disadvantaged groups. The sector of free media work as a democratic, pluralistic force now also occupies an important place in the field of member initiatives of the KUPF and demands that the KUPF constantly deal with this topic.

The KUPF's power to shape society is represented by the member initiatives in their daily regional and national work, which make essential contributions to the development of contemporary art and cultural production, to democratization and cultural participation.

Members

The diversity of the member initiatives reflects the range of contemporary and socio-cultural work in Upper Austria. Actively intervening and shaping society as well as questioning existing structures are an important contribution to the emancipatory development in the respective regions and a piece of lived democracy.

  • Present and future-oriented cultural work
  • Mediation of in-house productions and projects
  • Mediation and facilitation of contemporary art and culture
  • Content-related and organizational independence from regional authorities, political bodies and state institutions
  • Independence from political parties and religious communities
  • Non-profit
  • Democratic behavior
  • self-organisation
  • Positioning against inhuman ideological currents

tasks

The work of the KUPF is supported by three pillars:

  • in cultural policy by actively helping to secure, improve and further develop regional cultural initiatives in their diversity
  • in the union by reacting quickly to legislative changes and paying attention to the social context of self-determined cultural work and supporting cultural initiatives in the event of problems in cultural work.
  • through service for member associations e.g. B. Member counseling , further training offers for cultural workers (especially through the Kupfakademie ).

The foundation of the work of the KUPF are the member associations, on whose needs the three pillars of the KUPF are based.

Partnerships

The KUPF is a member of the IG Kultur Österreich as an Austrian interest group and performs tasks as their national representative.
