construction

After the city fire of 1799, the half-timbered building was erected. It was a central hall house with two rooms to the right and left of the hall. The floor tiles in the hallway on the ground floor and the stairs leading to the upper floor date from the late 19th or early 20th century. The residential building was entered in the list of monuments of the city of Arnsberg in 1991 as a typical example of a town house with a central corridor .

A forge was built on the house, which was available in 1908 at the latest. It was owned by the master blacksmith Vernholz and then belonged to the blacksmith Fritz Huss. The building was also later referred to as the Huss smithy. The now existing workshop building dates from 1921 and was renewed in 1951.

The house and workshop stood empty for a few years around the turn of the millennium. Among other things, because of the monument protection requirements, it was hardly possible to use it as a residential building. The city of Arnsberg then bought the house and workshop in order to use them for cultural purposes.

The ensemble was heavily rebuilt on the ground floor. In the area of the listed residential building there is now a catering facility, mainly for events. A stage and corresponding lighting and sound technology were installed in the earlier workshop that followed. There is space for around 100 people in the auditorium. The architectural interventions were otherwise limited. Much like large cranes on the ceiling are still reminiscent of the commercial past.

use

The Kulturschmiede has served as a small house for the Arnsberg Theater since 2003, in addition to the Sauerland Theater for larger performances. In addition to in-house productions and school theater productions, productions by guest ensembles are also offered.

It is the seat of the Israeli-German Teatron Theater. The professional and free theater was founded by Yehuda and Ulla Almagor. The Teatron Theater also appeared in North Rhine-Westphalia and received the sponsorship award from the Art and Culture Foundation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . Further productions followed, some with experimental character. Classical drama is sometimes combined with puppet and object theater. There are also connections with the visual arts, music and dance theater. The theater has performed successfully with its productions in Germany, Europe, Israel and the USA.

Under the name Teatron Stage II, amateurs from the region are staged, among other things, central works of drama literature (e.g. 2013: Friedrich Schiller : Kabale und Liebe ). The group also takes part in various regional cultural projects and regularly takes part in the Arnsberg Art Summer .
