Buddy Anton

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Buddy Anton is a fictional character of the author Wilhelm Herbert Koch . As the prototype of the miner, it achieved cult status throughout the Ruhr area .

history

On December 4, 1954, the WAZ printed the comment Kumpel Anton from its sports editor Wilhelm H. Koch for the first time in the weekend edition. Up to Anton's “retirement” 1,400 stories about him had been printed in the WAZ. Since 1955 they have been summarized in several books. By 1967 at the latest, it had taken its position as an independent brand in the Ruhr area.

language

The language is a conglomerate of different dialects. It gets an additional sense of humor in that it is written in the gloss as it sounds spoken. For example, endings on “-ben” become “-m” or “-mm”, whereby the preceding vowel is lengthened, endings on “-s” or “-ss” become “-tt” (especially “Was” and "Das" to "Watt" and "Datt"). The Ruhr German is also enriched with images, metaphors and onomatopoeia from various other languages: "Kappes" ( Kölsch ), "jottwedee" ( Berliners ), "stickum sein" ( Yiddish ), "Lamäng" ( French )

Structure of the gloss

The gloss begins with an introductory question on which a conversation is built. At the end it comes back to its starting point.

people

The following people appear in the stories:

Anton: Bergmann, addressee and the acting self in the stories.

"Anton was smart, creative and down to earth, anti-elitist, the opposite of a hero ..."

- Dagmar Kift

Emil (Ämmil) Cervinski: Also Bergmann, colleague of Anton and questioner at the beginning of the conversation. His surname is typical of the Ruhr area, as its ending "-ski" indicates that he has Polish ancestors.
