The Hemshofschachtel theater , also known as Hemshofschachtel for short , is a dialect theater in Ludwigshafen am Rhein in the Nord / Hemshof district. Theater plays and cabaret are performed in the Palatinate dialect .

The name Hemshofschachtel goes back to an old water mill that was located near the theater on an arm of the Rhine . The theater is lined in red velvet and has around 80 seats. The foyer is designed in the style of a living room .

The theater, which is run as a private theater, was founded in 1987 by Marie-Louise Mott (also Malou Mott), a trained actress. Mott, who was born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, is German-French. She is the artistic director and theater manager. Andreas Assanoff works as artistic director, director and author . The actors are amateur actors . The theater has a regular cast of 25 to 30 actors. In the 2011/12 season, the Hemshofschachtel theater celebrated its 25th anniversary with the comedy Jesses Nä, so ä Theater! with Mott as the theater director Fanny in the lead role.

In addition to the regular monthly program, Theater Hemshofschachtel also offers performances for birthday, company and Christmas parties. The performances are also shown at guest performances.

The Hemshofschachtel theater gained national fame as a filming location and setting for the crime scene: Babbeldasch , which was first broadcast on Das Erste in February 2017 . In addition to Mott and Assanoff, more than 20 ensemble members of the Hemshofschachtel Theater, some of them long-standing, worked in the crime scene , including Mott's daughter Petra Mott , Gerd Rohrbacher , Vito Schito and Christian Borowski .

In 2006 the Hemshofschachtel theater hit the headlines negatively when five people with intellectual disabilities were refused a visit to the theater by the theater management because the performance was to be disrupted.
