Kunštátská kaple

The Kunštátská kaple (German Kronstädter Kapelle ) is a small chapel on the ridge of the Eagle Mountains in the Czech Republic .

geography

The chapel is located at 1035 m directly on the ridge path on the edge of the high moor on the Kunštátský hřbet ( Kronstadt Hill ) between the Tetřevec ( Johnskuppe ) and the Pěticestí crossroads. It can still be reached by climbing along marked hiking trails from the villages of Zdobnice ( Stiebnitz ), Říčky v Orlických horách ( Ritschka ) and Kunštát ( Kronstadt ) via the Pěticestí.

history

The circular chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built between 1670 and 1671 in wood and served as a house of prayer for the Tyrolean foresters working on the mountain ridge. In 1831 the timbered building was demolished and replaced by a stone chapel, which was in ruins again in 1860. The present building was built in 1869.

After the end of the Second World War and the expulsion of the German residents of the surrounding towns, the chapel fell into disrepair and was plundered. After 1960 the last surviving sculpture of a pieta was brought to the Church of the Good Shepherd in Velká Zdobnice.

After 2000 the dilapidated building was renovated and consecrated again on June 18, 2005 by Bishop Dominik Duka from Königgrätz .
