Kunie Iwahashi

Kunie Iwahashi ( Japanese 岩 橋 邦 枝 , Iwahashi Kunie ; born October 10, 1934 in Hiroshima as Kunie Nemoto ( 根本 邦 枝 , Nemoto Kunie ); † June 11, 2014 in Fukuoka ) was a Japanese writer.

Life

The daughter of a Christian teacher couple left Hiroshima with her family two months before the atomic bomb was dropped. In 1957 she graduated from Ochanomizu Women's University with a degree in social pedagogy . With her first short story, Tsuchi kure , she won the national student writing competition in 1954. With Fusanka she won the Fujinkon Prize in 1956 .

After her marriage in 1957, her literary production was reduced, in her later works she repeatedly reflected on the situation of married women. In 1982 she was awarded the Hirabayashi Taiko Literature Prize for the Asai Nemuri short story book . In the Hanryo short story collection , for which she received the Japanese Minister of Education award, Iwahashi dealt with the death of her husband, who had died in 1983.

In Ai to hangyaku: kindai josei shi o tsukutta onna-tachi , Iwahashi wrote the biographies of twelve women in recent Japanese history. For Ukihashi she received the Women's Literature Prize (Joryū Bungaku Shō) in 1992 .

Kunie Iwahashi died on June 11, 2014 in Fukuoka at the age of 79 from complications from peritonitis .
