The art chronicle is a German art history journal .

Art chronicle from 1948

The Art Chronicle (full name: Art Chronicle, monthly journal for art history, museum affairs and monument preservation ) is published by the Central Institute for Art History in Munich and is also the newsletter of the Association of German Art Historians . It is considered to be the most important printed “ bulletin board ” in German-language art history.

It has been published in eleven issues per year since August 1948 (issue 9/10 each as a double issue) by the specialist publisher Hans Carl in Nuremberg . It contains reports on conferences and exhibitions, book reviews and literature reports, short reports on new finds, articles on issues relating to the preservation of monuments and cultural policy, on study issues and on the new media and much more.

Institutions can purchase paid access to most volumes through DigiZeitschriften .

Art chronicle from 1866 to 1932

From January 30, 1866 to 1932, the art chronicle was published by the Leipzig publishing house EA Seemann , initially under the title Kunstchronik, weekly journal for art and applied arts , and was a supplement to the magazine for fine arts to the applied arts sheet . From 1890 the title was Kunstchronik, weekly journal for art and applied arts, new series and from 1918 to October 1923 Kunstchronik und Kunstmarkt, weekly journal for connoisseurs and collectors . It was discontinued because subscribers could no longer afford the necessary increase in subscription price due to the hyperinflation in 1923 . From 1922 Alfred Kuhn was editor-in-chief and 1925/26 editor of the magazine. In 1926 the title was changed to Art Chronicle and Art Literature, New Series and served as the "announcement sheet for the Association of German Arts and Crafts Associations". In addition to short messages, it contained detailed exhibition reviews and reviews of current specialist literature.
