history

The association was re-established in 1948 as part of the first German Art History Conference in Brühl . In addition to the Deutscher Verein für Kunstwissenschaft eV , it was a professional association for art historians. Another aim was to establish contact with the art historians who had emigrated during the Nazi era . The initiative to found this association went back to the first chairman Hans Jantzen and his successors Hans Kauffmann , Herbert von Eine and Heinrich Lützeler .

At the art historians' day in Ulm in 1968 an open conflict broke out, which led to the Ulm association splitting off.
