The Kunsthalle Budapest ( Hungarian Műcsarnok , literally “Kunsthalle”) is an exhibition building on Budapest's Heroes' Square , built according to a design by architects Albert Schickedanz and Fülöp Herczog, inaugurated in December 1895. It should not be confused with the modern Palace of the Arts (Művészetek Palotája , MŰPA for short) at Komor Marcell útca 1, inaugurated on March 14, 2005. The art gallery is located at Dózsa-György-út 37, the main facade faces Heroes' Square (Hősök tere). Opposite the Kunsthalle is the Museum of Fine Arts (Szépművészeti Múzeum), designed by the same team of architects. The Kunsthalle does not have its own art collection; it houses important temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. The architecture of the Kunsthalle is an extreme example of eclecticism ; there are no signs of the Art Nouveau that emerged at the time. Since 2007, the Kunsthalle Budapest has also had the Ernst Múzeum in Nagymező utca 8 and the Dorottya Galéria in Dorottya utca 8.
