Art credit Baselland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Art Credit Baselland was founded in 1930 by Walter Eglin , Otto Plattner , Jacques Düblin and Ernst Bolens.

In the interwar period, the loan made available annually to promote the visual arts had the character of an emergency loan that sought to alleviate the material hardship of artists through purchases and art-in-building contracts. The canton of Basel-Landschaft has been buying works from artists since 1930.

In the early years of the Kunstkredit, the Kunstkredit collection primarily represented works of art from the Basel landscape; since 1962 it has brought together artists from the entire Basel region. From 1935 on, the constituent art credit commission laid the foundation for the current collection with its acquisitions. It includes around 4,300 purchased works of art in all techniques. Whether painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, media art or installation: the focus of the collection is on the relationship to the region.
