The Waldviertel Art Museum is located in Schrems ( Lower Austria ). The museum was built and planned by the couple Makis E. Warlamis and Heide Warlamis .

The museum with gallery and studios as well as the “Park of Amazement” are located on a total area of ​​14,000 m². Particular emphasis was placed on the connection between international museum architecture and the characteristic natural and cultural landscape of the Waldviertel . The academy for children and young people also offers creative courses for children, the annual children's art festival as well as age-appropriate guided tours and workshops for kindergartens and schools.

The museum opened in June 2009. It shows changing exhibitions every year. The basis is the work of Heide and Makis Warlamis, as well as the collection of sculptures and objects by Austrian and international contemporary artists.

The IDEA house is attached to the museum. Warlami's design is shown here, consisting of the Vienna Collection porcelain series, Makis children's furniture and the carpet collection. In addition, the IDEA house includes international design, furniture and art objects.

Exhibitions

The themes of the annual exhibitions are often closely related to the immediate surroundings of the Waldviertel and its residents. The respective contents are made tangible and tangible for the visitors through a supporting program of guided tours, workshops, lectures, parties or bread baking. The museum building of the Kunstmuseum Waldviertel is embedded in the extensive "Park of Amazement". This green area includes a diverse garden architecture with stone sculptures such as the "sleeping poet" or the heavenly pillars as well as a temple of Mary, an amphitheater and the Makis-Miro oven. In summer the area is used for events. The aim is to give visitors a holistic experience of art, nature and creativity through guided tours, family celebrations, bread baking, projects, workshops and creative weeks.

Heide and Makis Warlamis

The Kunstmuseum Waldviertel was planned by the artist couple Heide Warlamis and Makis E. Warlamis since 2007. Heide Warlamis has headed the institution since Makis Warlamis died. Heide Warlamis studied painting as well as ceramic sculpture and sculpture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. From 1981 to 1990 she headed the 'Art Gallery - Austrian Gallery for Ceramics' in Vienna, in 1985 she founded the “Vienna Collection Porzellanmanufaktur” in Schrems and since 1992, together with her husband Efthymios (Makis) Warlamis (1942–2016), has managed the “ International Design Center I.DE.A. ”, also in Schrems.
