Rovaniemi Art Museum

The art museum of Rovaniemi ( fin. Rovaniemen taidemuseo ) is a municipal art museum opened in 1986 , which also fulfills the function of a museum for regional art of the province of Lapland . It is located in a former postal vehicle depot from the 1930s in the center of Rovaniemi . The building was completely rebuilt in the 1980s according to plans by Juhani Pallasmaa .

The starting point for the museum was the collection of the Jenny ja Antti Wihuri Foundation, which contained over 500 works of modern Finnish art from the late 1940s. The museum currently has more than 3000 exhibits. The museum is directed by Hilkka Liikkanen.

The museum opened on October 17, 1986 after a renovation . In May 2011 the building was completely redesigned and the museum got new rooms. The Lapland Chamber Orchestra moved into the now expanded building . The building was named " Korundi Cultural Center ".
