Dome thud

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

kuppelkucker.de is the German Bundestag's internet portal for children . The site is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 11. It provides information about parliamentary work, the democratic system and the Reichstag building , as well as current news from the Bundestag. Text and messages are offered as voice outputs for children who cannot yet read.

history

The page appeared in November 2007 as a supplement to the youth portal mitmischen.de of the German Bundestag. The original aim was to playfully inform children between the ages of 8 and 14 about how Parliament works. The page was designed in the style of a comic and more images, graphics, videos and playful, interactive elements were used. A lexicon should be used to explain parliamentary terms such as mandate or reading to young users.

A revised version of the website followed on August 1, 2011. The concept was tailored to a slightly younger age group, 5- to 11-year-old children. In doing so, the Bundestag reacted to criticism that the original page was already too childlike for children at the age of 14. In addition to the visual modernization of the site, new functionalities such as online games and coloring templates have been introduced and operation has been made more intuitive. As a leading figure, “ Karlchen Adler ” - a comic figure based on the Bundestag eagle - guides visitors through the site. You can discover a representative office, the dome of the Reichstag building or the plenary hall. For younger children who do not yet have sufficient reading skills, texts and messages can also be heard as voice output.

In June 2016 the website was revised again. The website was completely optimized in a responsive design for tablet and smartphone use. Another new feature is a video area in which, for example, the function of the Bundestag, the legislation and the children's commission are explained in a child-friendly manner. Teachers can request or download materials for the class.

content

The main focus of the website is on information and explanations on the work of the German Bundestag, the Reichstag building and the democratic system. Every week there are two current news items related to the German Bundestag; older reports are accessible in the archive. Online games are intended to convey knowledge about parliamentary operations in a playful way, e.g. B. through a political quiz. In the section Children's Commission, the work of the Children's Commission of the German Bundestag (KiKo) is presented, and users can send an email to the KiKo. Under “For parents” and “For teachers” the site offers an overview of what kuppelkucker has to offer and information material.

meaning

According to its own statements, the German Bundestag is the only parliament in Europe that offers a website for children aged 5 and over. In Germany, the Bundestag was the first state body to have its own website for children.
