Heinrich Lay

Heinrich Lay (born July 5, 1928 in Sânandrei , German  Sanktandres , Kingdom of Romania ) is a German historian and Banat local researcher .

Life

Heinrich Lay comes from the ethnic group of the Banat Swabians . He attended primary school in Sânandrei from 1935 and 1939, then the educational institution Banatia in Timişoara until 1944. From 1950 he studied history at the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca , but was in May 1952 because of his "unhealthy social origin" from released there and deported with many residents of the Banat region to the Bărăgan steppe . After his return in September 1954, he enrolled again at the Babeş-Bolyai University and completed his state examination in July 1956. He then worked until 1984 as a teacher in Lugoj . In 1986 he moved to Germany, first to Rosenthal (Hessen) , then to Haina , where he worked in the archive of the Haina monastery until his retirement in 1991.
