Kuramathi is a hotel island in the Maldives . It is one of eight islands managed and marketed by the Maldivian company Universal Enterprises Limited.

It is located 60 km west of Malé in the Rasdhoo Atoll . Kuramathi is densely forested with bushes and coconut trees . There is a sand bank on the west side of the island that is visible at low tide.

Infrastructure

The island can be reached via Malé International Airport and then further by boat (1.5 hours) or seaplane (20 minutes). A ferry connects the island with the neighboring island of Rasdhoo with a local village.

There is a medical center on the island. The largest pressure chamber in the Maldives is operated in cooperation with the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

Since 2000 there has been a biostation called Eco Center on Kuramathi, in which information is provided about marine biodiversity and ecology, and courses for tourists give insights into the biological processes and connections around Kuramathi.

Sports

The island's water sports center offers boat rentals, and windsurfing and sailing courses are offered there.

Dive sites are at the nearby "Hammerhead Shark Point" and on the outer reef of the atoll with the puffer , reef sharks , surgeonfish , parrotfish , triggerfish and butterfly fish . Occasional sea ​​turtles can be seen on the outer reef .
