The Bad Wörishofen spa park covers a total of 163,000 m² and is located in the Bad Wörishofen community , in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ). The spa park in the west of the community is on the list of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation.

history

Archduke Joseph of Austria was a spa guest in Bad Wörishofen from 1893 to 1897 . During this time, the construction of the spa park, which at that time was still called Archduke-Joseph-Anlagen , began. The Bad Wörishofen Beautification Association expanded the park in 1902/1903. In the north, the park is bordered by Alfred-Baumgarten-Strasse, which also partially cuts through the park. In the south, Schöneschacherstrasse and Albert-Schalle-Weg close off the park.

The spa gardens, laid out in the English style, are divided into different areas. There is a scent and aroma garden with over 250 types of scented plants. The fragrance and aroma garden extends over an area of ​​around 3,500 m². There are also three medicinal herb gardens named after historical people:

  • Walahfrid Strabo Garden: named after Walahfrid Strabo (* 808/809 - † 849), abbot of the Reichenau monastery . The garden is designed as a medieval monastery garden.
  • Leonhart Fuchs Garden: The garden was laid out in strict geometric forms from the Renaissance after Leonhart Fuchs (* 1501 - † 1566), a physician from the University of Tübingen.
  • Sebastian Kneipp Garden: a rural, rural garden, named after Sebastian Kneipp (* 1821 - † 1897).

A rosarium with over 550 varieties of roses was laid out in 1972 on an area of ​​around 10,000 m² .
