Kurt Carel (born November 15, 1928 ) is a former German soccer player and later coach .

Playing career in Essen and Duisburg

At the beginning of his career, Carel played for the Essen club SpVg Schonnebeck . By 1950 at the latest, he was accepted into the squad of the neighboring Sportfreunde Katernberg , who competed in the Oberliga West . This represented the top division in the then regionally limited league system. At Katernberg, Carel was temporarily a team-mate of the later world champion Helmut Rahn and was already playing regularly in the early days. Over time, the striker became a permanent player and regular goal scorer, which aroused the interest of other clubs. After the relegation of the green-whites from the Am Lindenbruch stadium after the 1952/53 season with teammates such as goalkeeper Heinz Kubsch , defender Helmut Penting and half-striker Willi Vordenbäume in the 2nd division West, Carel stormed in 1953/54 for a round in the second division and took sixth place with the Sportfreunde. He had scored 25 goals in 30 league games and was third in the top scorer list.

In the summer of 1954 he was obliged by Meidericher SV , but their equally interested city rival Duisburg game club went empty-handed. At MSV, which also played first-class, he was initially mostly in the first team and also appeared as a goalscorer six times in the 1954/55 season. In 1955 he had to accept relegation to the 2nd League West , where he lost his regular place and after being promoted again in 1956, he hardly played a role within the team. He had played a total of 40 first and second division games with twelve goals for Meiderich before moving to Duisburg city rivals Hamborn 07 in 1958 . With this he rose one year later, in 1958/59, as champions of the 2nd division West - Carel came to 22 league games with seven goals and center forward Horst Jesih to 26 appearances with 27 goals - in the league and then belonged to the team up to 1961. A little later he was accepted into the old men's team of Meidericher SV.

In the player lexicon for Carel at the clubs Sportfreunde Katernberg, Meidericher Spielverein and Sportfreunde Hamborn 07, a total of 86 games in the West Football League with 25 goals are listed.

Career as a coach

After the end of his career as a player, he returned to his former club from Meiderich, which was later renamed MSV Duisburg, to work as a youth coach for them. With his teams he was successful several times across the region and helped various players jump into professional football. He also worked as a trainer at the VfB Marathon Remscheid . With this he made it into the final of the German amateur championship in 1968 , in which his team prevailed 5-3 after extra time against FC Wacker Munich .
