Kurt Kohn

Kurt Kohn (* 1944 in Gescher ) is a German linguist . Until his retirement he taught as a university professor at the philological faculty of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen in the field of applied and English linguistics.

Kurt Kohn was born in Gescher (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 1944. From 1973 to 1983 he worked as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Konstanz , where he completed his habilitation in English and applied linguistics in 1980 . After working at the University of Konstanz, he was Professor of Translation Studies at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) at the University of Heidelberg from 1983 to 1993 . At the same time he was an honorary visiting professor at the University of Surrey in Guildford (England) from 1990 to 1993 . From 1993 until his retirement he held a chair for English and applied linguistics at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen.

Kurt Kohn's main research interests include second language research, computer-aided teaching and learning of languages ​​(e-learning / blended learning), psycholinguistics of second language acquisition, intercultural communication, translation and interpreting, technical languages, terminology and the pedagogical aspects of English as lingua franca.

However, application-related projects in the field of multimedia and web-based second language acquisition form an important part of his work. These are particularly evident in the TELOS and Steinbeis Transfer Center Language Learning Media projects , with the latter being the founding director.

In addition, cooperation between science and industry has also received support from Kurt Kohn.

In 2009 he and his extensive work became the subject of a commemorative publication.
