Kurt Strohmayer-Dangl

Kurt Strohmayer-Dangl (born March 25, 1964 in Waidhofen an der Thaya ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2008 to 2013 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council and from 2007 to 2013 mayor of the municipality of Waidhofen an der Thaya.

education and profession

Strohmayer-Dangl attended the elementary school in Waidhofen an der Thaya between 1970 and 1974 and then switched from 1974 to 1978 to the secondary school in his home town of Waidhofen. After completing the polytechnic course in Waidhofen an der Thaya between 1978 and 1979, he learned the profession of bricklayer from 1979 to 1982 and also attended vocational school. Between 1983 and 1984 he attended basic training for the gendarmerie in Vienna, after which he became a police officer in 1984.

Politics and functions

Strohmayer-Dangl was elected to the local council of the ÖVP Waidhofen an der Thaya in 2000 and rose to the city council of the ÖVP Waidhofen an der Thaya in 2003. As a result, he moved to the office of Vice Mayor of Waidhofen in 2005 and was elected mayor of his home community in 2007. In addition, from 1987 to 2006 he was a staff representative for the Christian Trade Union Group - Comradeship of the Austrian Executive (FCG KdEÖ) in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district and from 2006 to 2008 was the staff representative for the Comradeship of the Lower Austrian Executive. In 2004 Strohmayer-Dangl was elected sub-district party chairman of the ÖVP Waidhofen an der Thaya, in 2007 he took over the function of the community party chairman of the ÖVP Waidhofen an der Thaya. Furthermore, in 2005 he was elected district chairman of Waidhofen an der Thaya of the Lower Austrian ÖAAB. In October 2012 Strohmayer-Dangl resigned his chairmanship of the ÖVP district party and the ÖAAB. He justified his step with the criticism of the union of state employees after the dismissal of a town hall employee. In December 2013 Strohmayer-Dangl resigned from the mayor of Waidhofen an der Thaya. At the same time he also resigned from the local council.

Strohmayer-Dangl was a member of the Federal Council from April 10, 2008 to April 23, 2013 and was elected deputy chairman of the Justice Committee in 2009. He was also the Secretary of the Incompatibility Committee and a member of the Internal Affairs Committee. Strohmayer-Dangl was also a member of the board of directors of Raiffeisenbank Waidhofen an der Thaya from December 2003 to December 2013 and in July 2007 took over the function of chairman of the citizenship and registry office association Waidhofen an der Thaya. Furthermore, he has been chairman of the GVA (community association for waste management tasks in the administrative district of Waidhofen an der Thaya) since December 2008.
