Weiland was a technician who worked at the armaments factory Rheinmetall AG in Apolda . He was non-party, but took part in resistance actions and was charged with " undermining military strength " before the People's Court in Berlin . According to various sources, he was executed or killed in prison in Brandenburg-Görden . As early as the beginning of July 1945, an Antifa committee that had just emerged from illegality named a street after him, and the Apolda city administration put a memorial plaque on his house at Königstrasse 7.

The exact circumstances of his death are still unclear.
